KL Rahul made his Test debut for India in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground against Australia in 2014. But his debut did not go all too well as he was dismissed for a duck.
Rahul revealed on talk show Open House with Renil, how he was disappointed and depressed with his performance and how Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma came to his aid.
"Both of them (Anushka and Virat) have been very good to me and I have a great story to tell you," Rahul said.
"Anushka was there to watch the Melbourne match. She could see that I was down and dejected (with personal performance) while my thoughts were all over. Anushka came to my room and told me she isn't going to let me sit alone and think about cricket and added that she and Virat are going to take him out."
Rahul also revealed how he went as a third wheel in many of Virat-Anushka dates. He admitted on the talk-show that the Indian captain told him that he wasn't the first to fail.
"I third wheeled on one of the dinner dates. Both Virat and Anushka shared their stories describing moments when they had endured failure in their careers. That made me feel like that I wasn't the only one who ruined his first impression," Rahul added.
"We had a week's break before the next game and they took me out every time with them. They are a powerful couple and have had a great influence on me as a couple," Rahul revealed.
Rahul thanked Anushka for approaching him and help him sort out his mind.
"It was nice of Anushka to do it as I didn't know how she could understand what I was going through. We still stay in touch and exchange a few messages, although Anushka's are about my dog mostly," Rahul said.
Rahul left behind the disappointment of his first Test and came out all guns blazing to smash his maiden Test century in the fourth and final match of the series in Sydney.
Rahul has continued to impress with his ability to score quick and big. Last August, the stylish batsman equalled the world record for seven consecutive fifties in Test cricket joining the likes of Sir Everton Weekes, Andy Flower, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Kumar Sangakkara and Chris Rogers.
The Karnataka batsman has played 24 Tests scoring 1512 with the best of 199. He will be next seen in action during India's long tour of England starting with two Twenty20 Internationals in Ireland on June 27.
