Belgium's Alison van Uytvanck pulled off a huge upset on Thursday as she knocked out Wimbledon's 2017 champion Garbine Muguruza and absolutely dominated the defending champion.
However, there is another aspect of her fighting spirit that many people are not aware of.
On Thursday, as she upset Muguruza showing immense spirit, she also put on a strong display later by coming out as a gay.
Van Uytvanck is one of just three openly gay players on the women's tour -- the others being Sweden's Johanna Larsson and Netherlands' Richel van Hogenkamp.
She opened up to her relationship with fellow player Greet Minnen and said she is not sick and does not have a disease.
"I'm not sick. I don't have a disease. But I just feel like it's good that I could come out as a gay person," Van Uytvanck told reporters.
The Belgian world No.47 added that they are very happy together and did not want to keep it to themselves.
"We just decided to not make it personal and not keep it for ourselves. I'm happy," she said.
"I just feel like we don't have to be ashamed of this, and that's why I also want to be free.
"Soon we are going to live together. We do feel super happy together and that's what we will show to the world."
On the sport front, Van Uytvanck will next take on 28th seed Anett Kontaveit from Estonia, who earlier beat USA's Jennifer Brady 6-2, 7-6(4).
